A powder-blue carousel with eight ivory horses prancing round it on barley-twist poles, rising and falling in turn under a scalloped rounding board with oval mirrors, above a platform ringed with bulbs. The canopy lid is striped pink and ivory in twelve pillowed gores, with a pennant flying from its finial.

About the design

Designed in three dimensions

Round and round again

Eight barley-twist poles run round the drum, each carrying a prancing horse with saddle, bridle, mane and flowing tail, rising and falling in turn between a platform ringed with bulbs and a scalloped rounding board with oval mirrors. Horses, poles, bulbs and mirror frames print in a second color as part of the body. The canopy lid has twelve pillowed gores; every other gore, cut cleanly along its seams, the valance beneath it and a finial of a diamond ball and a pennant print in the same color. It rests on the rim by its beveled underside.
