About the design

Designed in three dimensions

A lantern for Eid

Eight pointed-arch windows are sunk into the eight-sided body between twisted corner columns: four hold eight-point star strapwork and four a crescent with stars. The frames, strapwork, columns and a bead line print in gold as part of the body. The lid is a drum of eight arched niches under a ribbed onion dome, a ball and an upright crescent, with the dome, finial and a star band in the same gold. It rests on the rim by its beveled underside.
